Now we switch to the hotel we stayed at in Sweden... the
Nordic Light Hotel. It was very contemporary. This is the light fixture
above the reservation desk. Across the street is its sister hotel,
the Nordic Sea Hotel, which houses the Absolut Ice Bar. Very fun! |
Peeking in through the window at the Absolut Ice Bar in
the Nordic Sea Hotel, Stockholm. It wasn't open for business at this
hour, but we will go inside later. Reservations are required. |
| The Ice Bar is a room inside the Nordic Sea Hotel that is built
of ice... ice walls, ice tables, ice sculptures... even ice glasses. It's
kept at 22æF (-5æC). Swedish Absolut Vodka bought name rights in 2003, so
only Absolut Vodka drinks are served. |
The Ice Bar provides you a warm cape-parka
to wear while in the bar. It also has mittens. Even so, I started to feel
cold
pretty
quickly. |
The Absolut Ice Bar in Stockholm. The bar
is in service year round (though it's rebuilt every six months) and was inspired
by the Ice
Hotel in
Jukkasjärvi which is an ice hotel that is rebuilt each November/December
and lasts as long as temperatures permit. |
