We were jetlagged our very first morning inTokyo, so we woke up very early and
went to the big fish market which begins at 5am.This is one of the stalls
inside the HUGE market.
Workers cutting up tuna into smaller sizes for resale
The hustle and bustle of the fish market. Lots of men drove these funny machines
that looked like a trash can with a steering wheel on top.
The highlight of the fish market was the tuna auction which begins at 5:30am.
All the frozen tuna are laid out on the floor to be inspected, then auctioned
off. It was a very surreal scene.
Brokers inspecting the tuna before the auction.
The tail is cut off so the brokers can inspect the fish to determine their value.
A closer view of the cut-off tails.
Brokers/inspectors digging out a small chunk of tuna meat. They then rub it between
their fingers to determine the quality of the fat content and texture.
Rows and rows of frozen tuna to be sold.

Another auction going on. I'm not sure what kind of fish these were.
The brokers gather for an auction.

contain different fish. Every fish imaginable was here.
