The main teahouse where Geishas entertained important guests. This teahouse was featured in the book "Memoirs of a Geisha."

A real Geisha on her way to work at the large red teahouse in the previous picture. They were rather shy about having their picture taken, so they walked quickly through the streets which were lined with tourists wanting to snap their picture. It was a wild scene!

These two women are not real Geishas. They are only dressed in costumes. There were shops that would dress you as a Geisha for a fee.

A street scene in Kyoto of a couple of Geishas (not sure if they are real), students, and a rickshaw driver.

A temple in Kyoto.

One of the shrines we saw in Kyoto (there are a lot!).

This is the backside of restaurants and shops along a stream/canal in Kyoto.

A bridge takes you over the stream/canal to this restaurant entrance.

A collection of small restaurants faced this garden.

A small zen garden within the larger garden you just saw.

This is the interior of the restaurant where we had our best meal in Japan. It was very minimalist, and had only one menu.

A chef at the same restaurant. Behind him is their stove and oven. Very basic.

Steve and I enjoying our favorite restaurant.

These wooden plaques were hanging on a restaurant wall and featured erotic artwork. The entire wall was filled with them.
